The Universal Life Church Deserves Respect

The origin, history and tradition of the Universal Life Church is one that deserves respect.

 

Yes, Kirby Hensley in 1959 started "Life Church" from his garage and in 1962 he incorporated his "Life Church" under the name of Universal Life Church, but this is not the origin or the beginning of the history of the esteemed tradition of this Church with a Christian name.

 

Hensley's Church has had its fair share of issues with the IRS, the authorities and with its Ministers. It has also had its detractors, as many do not even view it as a Church, but rather as a Church without a doctrine, or as an alleged safehaven for draft dodgers, or folks not willing to pay taxes or a breeding ground for unqualified so called members of the clergy to condone or illicit such illegal acts as drug use and etc.

 

I don't care what the public perception of Hensley is, I don't care what public perception is of me, the Universal Life Church name is one that demands and deserves respect. The name actually dates back to the 2nd Century long before the world ever knew Kirby Hensley. Hensley simply borrowed our Churches name.

 

Yet regardless of who claims or how the origin of the Universal Life Church materialized.....

 

No different than with our Sister Church, the Roman Catholic Church it has had issues through the years as well. The Universal Life Church has unfortunately had an occasional Minister convicted or accused of child abuse or some other crime, no different than with the Church in Rome.

 

Yes UNIVERSAL and CATHOLIC are but one with respect to definition. The Universal Life Church name, just the same as the Roman Catholic Church name both demand respect. Both Christian Churches have a great number of men and women who have devoted their lives to serving our Lord Jesus Christ.
