Each week the Universal Life Church World Headquarters sends out a ULC Newsletter as such, usually on Saturday or Sunday and in addition between Wednesday through Friday we send out an email entitled: "Universal Life Church - Employment Opportunities."

If you are not receiving these?

You are an ordained Minister of ours but for whatever reason you have not as of yet created a profile on our ULC Network for Ministers. Usually we send these out through the ULC Network, with today's issue however we are sending such out via the ulcnetwork.com mail server to enable all to receive such.

We know most do not like to be inundated with spam email, however we assure you other than these two weekly emails we seldom send out any other email, wherefore joining our ULC Minister's Network it will not saturate your incoming email with spam as we do not send such, nor do we distribute your email address to any one.

We Offer Two Networks, one for our ordained Ministers only and one for the general public where all faiths are welcome. These networks are similar to Facebook, Shoutlife, LinkedIn, Myspace and others, but they are moreso geared for subject matters pertaining to beliefs, faith, ministry issues and current event religious news. Our ULC Network also keeps you updated with information on Marriage Laws, the OSM, the ULC and etc.

PICTURE MINISTER ID CARDS

Again these are an extremely important facet of your appearance and respectability as a ULC faith based Minister. These serve as both a wallet credential and/or as a badge and at no cost to you, you can request a lanyard, badge clip or badge reel. Other ULC's offer such without a picture, but they also offer a childish, useless press pass or parking permit. How you present yourself, it is so very important. If you want people to take you serious in whatever it is you do, you need to be professional and look professional.

No not all County Clerk's or Wedding Authorities within your state or country requires such, however as a faith based Minister your ministry work extends far beyond that of being a wedding minister. Here in the USA, no law enforcement agency, DOC or FBOP facility, hospital or nursing home will view you as a legitimate Minister, without a picture Minister ID Card.

Don't forget we offer to you what is referred to as "Congregational Affiliation" or a "Chartership." Offering a Charter of Church Affiliation from the Universal Life Church and Christian Academy was a decision that required much debate. So many churches offer charters that have little or no value to the affiliated local church members. We wanted a charter that not only shows affiliation with the Headquarters, but one that serves your church or ministry as a document you will be proud to display to the community.

A main concern in this area is that so many of the charters we investigated from other organizations serve no other purpose than to increase the coffers of those organizations. Their charters simply did not serve the local congregations as more than wallpaper and we do not care to offer such a document. A church charter issued by a major denomination requires that you abide by the national bylaws of the organization, as basically a company owned church or store of religion, if you will.

Most non-denominational Internet churches, where there are no physical headquarters office or church building, offer charters that not only do not serve their members, but also have no legal standing in some states that require registry of denomination of your physical church. To offer a valid charter, some states demand that a true physical church or ministry exists that can be substantiated. The Universal Life Church and Christian Academy comply with these standards and we are working to offer an even nicer building to serve members, both local and around the world. Though in many cases, the local church will be a house church shared by both the church and the minister's family. The chartering authority, in some instances, requires more than simply an office operated within the home. It is to your benefit to be sure that the chartering organization complies properly with the laws and requirements of your state and county. If they can not show a building dedicated primarily for purposes of religious organization, they may fall outside of your local requirements and such charter will have no legal standing.

We have worked to make our Charter of Church Affiliation into an instrument that will meet the guidelines of various states, while at the same time allowing your church and congregation to maintain the same independent status granted within our ordination process. The Headquarters in Carrabelle, Florida continues to be available to help serve the needs of your congregation while not limiting your church or ministry.

As a chartered affiliate of the Universal Life Church and Christian Academy, your church or ministry will share partnership in the overall Ministries brotherhood of members, yet maintain complete control of the affairs of your separate church or ministry. Each church or ministry will be issued a document of Chartered Affiliation, and a congregational identification number that will be valid under the terms of the chartering agreement. Chartered Affiliation is based on annual renewal of the local church charter with the Headquarters office. Agreement of charter will be sent with each certificate and must be returned to finalize the chartering agreement.

Universal Life Church - I Can't Afford Ministry Credentials?

Ordination anywhere is FREE. Credentials however to show proof of ordination are not free - NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO OR WITH WHAT CHURCH, RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION OR ORDINATION ASSEMBLY LINE YOU CHOOSE.

True - In the USA some County Clerks or Wedding Authorities and in some Countries, credentials of ministry (proof of ordination are not required). HOWEVER, for real faith based Ministers like our Universal Life Church chooses to ordain, our Ministers are more than just wedding officiants. DOC (Department of Correction) and FBOP (Federal Bureau of Prison) Faclities ALL require Ministers to have such credentials as well as a verified Minister Picture ID Card, as do most Law Enforcement Agencies, Hospitals, Nursing Homes and etc.

The bottom line is to be a real Minister, you will incur expenses and if you can't afford Credentials of Ministry?

I possess 18 years plus of private, Christian education, I am the ONLY leader of a Universal Life Church who can state such and who is Christian faith based, baptized, confirmed and ordained. But rather it is not that I am the most educated or most trained, as much as it is I am the ULC Leader with the BIGGEST HEART that I tell you what I'm about to tell you.

Your family at home is a Ministry, one that takes precedence over you becoming a Minister to help others. If your finances are that poor where you can't afford a very small amount for Credentials of Ministry, your primary focus should not be on becoming an ordained minister, but rather on your #1 Priority & Ministry and that is your family or loved ones.

I believe God will look with great disfavor to anyone who sets their family, spouse/partner or loved ones on the back burner, to pursue a career as an ordained Minister to help others.

Before you can be a Minister and before you can help others, your homelife must be in order and this includes your finances. Being an ordained Minister requires even more monetary sacrifice, but this should not be at the expense of your loved ones.

If you can't afford your credentials, perhaps God is telling you to hold off until your homelife is better situated. While it is fantastic you are looking to help others, remember you chose to have a family and you have a responsibility to care for your loved ones and yourself.

George Martin Freeman, The Monastery & Daniel Chapin

Daniel Chapin, the former Vice President of "The Monastery" who quit as Vice President in January of 2010, is the man who recommended me, based on my many years of experience that I takeover for him as moderator of the Minister's Network for the ULC Monastery. Daniel Chapin is a friend, a colleague and has been a highly respected individual by many over seventeen years of service that he has provided to the Universal Life Church. Daniel and I have remained in contact.

As leader of the Universal Life Church the injustice and the fallicious nature of the ULC Monastery Storehouse website at http://www.universal-life-church.com will be set straight. First things first, the truth regarding Daniel Chapin. The ULC Monastery can't get their story straight. On this website published by George Freeman and The Monastery, they state:

The Beginning

Michael J. Cauley and Daniel Chapin were two moderators for the ULC Ministers Network. After the receipt of numerous complaints about Chapin accepting monies for services not rendered, Chapin was terminated and Cauley started full time moderating.

George Freeman, a.k.a. Brother Martin clearly states on this website, Chapin was terminated. Anyone on the Minister's Network in December of 2009 or January of 2010 knows this simply put is not true. It is a lie and it is a fabrication. Daniel Chapin announced to all in December he was leaving and even published a Farewell Blog. George Freeman and The Monastery even published this article via their blog concernng Brother Daniel captioned below.

Few individuals have shown as much hard work, expertise, and dedication to bringing happiness and opportunity to their fellow human being as Br. Daniel Brooks Chapin. Not only has Br. Chapin proved his selfless devotion to others by providing services to those suffering from mental trauma, but he has also participated in the advancement of social justice causes. Using his pastoral training background, he has applied the principles of civil justice in his role as officiant at many non-denominational wedding ceremonies and has continued these laudable efforts here at Universal Life Church Monastery. It is with great compassion and gratitude, therefore, that we watch him leave his post as Vice-President at the Church to grieve the recent passing of his mother, and to return home to care for his ailing father.
Throughout his career, Br. Chapin has successfully combined his natural altruism with real-life experience as well as rigorous training in various fields in order to better effect social change. Demonstrating his concern for the mental well-being of others, he attended the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress as well as the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, where he became board certified in acute traumatic and critical incident stress management, the knowledge of which he applied as Rehabilitation Specialist at the Mental Health Association of Orange County. Moreover, his past role as President at non-profit organizations such as the Coalition for the Advancement of Civil Justice illustrates his commitment to equality, fairness, and progress.
Br. Chapin’s work in ministry and wedding officiation reflects a similar set of ideals along with the talent needed to put them to use. An ordained minister, his studies in sociology and theology at Loyola Marymount University and his degree in Christian chaplaincy from UCMI Pastoral Training Institute have provided him with the necessary training for the co-ordination and performance of wedding ceremonies at Always and Forever – Southern California Weddings, where he currently serves as Administrator and Primary Officiant. Br. Chapin’s ministry has extended beyond the co-ordination of weddings, however, and, as a certified pastoral counselor, TIPS-certified specialist in drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and a certified teenager/child grief counselor, he has sought to ensure the health and happiness of the couples he marries as well as their families.
All of his valuable skills and life experience Br. Chapin has brought with him to his vice-presidency at Universal Life Church Monastery, which has undoubtedly grown and flourished as a consequence. He himself has eloquently expressed the high purpose and the profound impact of progressive ministerial work at the Church on the Universal Life Church Monastery blog, and what a selflessly rewarding privilege it is for the ordained minister. It is only appropriate to mention how instrumental his managerial role has been in the continuing success of the Church, and how greatly he will be missed. We send Br. Chapin our sympathy over the loss of his mother, and we wish his father an imminent recovery.

This Clearly Shows a Distortion of The Truth & a Blatant Attempt By The Monastery to Undermine Our Credibility, while on the otherhand covering up their BBB Reliability Report.

On the above captioned website of The Monastery, they publish a small part of our Better Business Bureau Reliability Report. They fail to publish the whole report and with good reason. Our report is impeccable showing a nearly 30 year track record, full cooperation by us in all facets and an A+ RATING. Our parent company is Universal Fortune Group and note unlike THE MONASTERY captioned below there was NO FACTORS that lowered our rating, only factors that raised credibility

On the other hand The Monastery has a BBB Reliability Report, that shows only a B RATING. Why? The Monastery has been non-cooperative, has refused to answer multiple requests for information and the BBB cannot verify how long The Monastery has been in business.

Legal Action vs. The Monastery

What has transpired since ULC Monastery Storehouse presiding chaplain, George Freeman was terminated by the ULC Monastery, Inc. in 2006 is uncalled for. George Freeman has a right to operate his own business, but not at the expense of victimizing others. When Brother Daniel Chapin approached and asked of me to takeover in December, 2009, I did so knowing the situation and I promised Daniel I would see it through and I would restore the good name of the Universal Life Church. No we are not affiliated with the ULC Modesto, nor do we share its non-traditionalist views, or its anti-Christian stance over the years yet I feel sorry for Brother Andre Hensley and what he has endured by the actions of this Freeman and the Monastery Storehouse since 2006.

Freeman's attacks of Brother Daniel Zimmerman, Brother Daniel Chapin, Brother Andre and his family, Kevin Andrews, Amy Long and others including myself through his website universal-life-church.com are nothing but untruths, exaggerations, assumptions, lies, fraudulent and fake emails, false criminal records, misleading Court documents, manipulations and what appears to be one man's animosities and hatred to those outside of his inner circle. This has gone on for four years, it is going to stop.

Publicity

This action will be well publicized and it is our intent for it to be. We want the world to know that Monastery Storehouse ordinations ARE NOT legal faith based ordinations, that Monastery Storehouse degrees are not accredited and it is a Degree Mill as defined by law, that Monastery Storehouse Titles are bogus, and other items like their parking permits and press passes are pretty much worthless.

Our ordinations are LEGAL Faith-Based Ordinations, we offer Fully Accredited Legal Degrees through our Academy webpage, our Titles are authentic based on a doctrine of faith we adhere to and accepted within our community of faith and that we DO NOT condone such items as worthless press passes or parking permits that more so resemble a Batman activity kit for children.

As leader of the Universal Life Church and Christian Academy, I promise we will prevail in this regard and I want the world to know and to see first hand. I'm doing it based on integrity, honesty, doing that which is right and for credibility of the Universal Life Church name.

We welcome any Monastery Storehouse Minister that wants to get ordained within the Christian Doctrine of Faith. For those who are non-Christians may we suggest Brother Douglas Hickman and Universal Ministries of Millford, IL. No I am not in allegiance with Brother Douglas or for that matter Brother Andre with the ULC Modesto as claimed by Freeman. I simply put do not condone Brother Andre or the ULC Modesto's ordination of followers of satan or atheists and the non doctrine of faith associated with their Church.

The future of this network with respect to its current assignment is in jeopardy. I have made some changes as I have removed the word interfaith, and referrals to the ULC Monastery Storehouse. This community network is only two months old with only 40 members, but it is not the quantity of members that disappoints as it is the lack of input.

The emergence of our Community Page on Facebook I think takes away from activity in both our Community Network and our ULC Minister's Only Network. It may just be one too many networks.

The other idea I am contemplating for the ulccommunity.org domain could be to use it for our Facebook Community Page. We'll see what happens.

Remember to be professional in how you present yourself, if you do not have a Minister Picture ID as of yet, please consider such. They are HUGE in providing to you that professional, real faith minister appearance.

ULC Monastery - Behind Closed Doors

The ULC Monastery Storehouse of Seattle, WA.

Up until now the Electronic Communications Act forbade my release of PRIVATE EMAILS received from George Freeman and/or Jeffrey Vogt of the Universal Life Church Monastery Storehouse. However since George Freeman has filed suit, such documents entered into the Court files becomes Public Record, wherefore I am now able to divulge the truth.

I was never employed by The Monastery. I was simply moderator for their Minister's Network. As moderator I developed a bond to Ministers of the ULC Monastery Storehouse. To this day I stand up for and behind my Ministers, those personally ordained by me or Monastery Ministers who I befriended on the Minister's Network.

Contrary to what The Monastery states via their website, I didn't quit moderating September 12th, 2010 just because George Freeman was unable to pay me or chose not too. I didn't quit because I was Freeman's competitor. I quit because of what George Martin Freeman and Jeffrey Vogt attempted to force me to do as moderator.

Freeman and the Monastary claim to adhere to the 1st Amendment, this is a bunch of BS. Censorship is Freeman's middle name and I would not follow through with George Freeman's last commandment in August of 2010. I will emphatically state Jeffrey Vogt at one time was a board member, but at the time of this email he was not, he was only doing what Freeman was telling him to do.

Freeman was big about rules on the Minister's Network, this was one rule I refused to implement, George Freeman ordering me to deny all Ministers the availability to promote their own website of their ministry or their wedding officiant business and to remove all contact information that could lead to benefit them in any way. One man's greed took precedence over not just his Ministers, but over all Monastery Ministers looking to serve others through this network.

You will also see attempted cover up in this email of the FREE ORDINATION scam the Monastery perpetrates. Note how Jeffrey Vogt states in only 1/3rd of the States, documentation is not required. That means in 2/3rds of the states it is required. This does not take into account that law enforcement, DOC, hospitals, nursing homes and etc., require picture ID's and/or documentation as well.

I was talking with George and the board, and we have come to the conclusion that there is a conflict of interest with your network and your ordinations. We are asking you to instate a new policy on the ministers' network, to disallow linking to any site that either a) benefits the linkee, or b) competes with any ulcm product or service. This includes social networks and online stores. This policy covers all communications from public posts, to private messages. This does include your links to any sites that you run or moderate.

Secondly, the section on your website that begins with "DON'T BE FOOLED BY FREE ORDINATION" is misleading and we feel it is a direct jab at us and the services we provide. Nearly a third of US states do not require any paperwork from the church for performing a wedding. "FREE ORDINATION MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT A CERTIFICATE" is blatant misinformation and we have to ask (on behalf of all ULC churches and members) for you to take this and other related misleading statements down.

What kind of Church would intentionally mislead prospects & bait them with FALSE FREE ORDINATION CLAIMS, knowing that in 2/3rds of states their claims of Free Ordination was a scam? (INDIVIDUALS IN 2/3rd's OF THE USA ALONE BEING BAITED WITH BOGUS FREE ORDINATION CLAIMS) And we are supposed to be Ministers or a Church?

Because of First Amendment religious freedom concerns, Congress has never passed any statute anywhere which defines what a church is (beyond saying "a church or convention or association of churches", which is like saying that the definition of a duck is "one or more ducks"). The IRS, which apparently is unconstrained by the First Amendment, has nonetheless ventured where angels fear to tread, and has established criteria which, in its view, define a church as follows:
1. A distinct legal existence
2. A recognized creed and form of worship
3. A definite and distinct ecclesiastical government
4. A formal code of doctrine and discipline
5. A distinct religious history
6. A membership not associated with any other church or denomination
7. An organization of ordained ministers
8. Ordained ministers selected after completing prescribed studies
9. A literature of its own
10. Established places of worship
11. Regular congregations
12. Regular religious services
13. Sunday schools for religious instruction of the young
14. Schools for the preparation of its ministers.
The Tax Court, which is apparently unconstrained by the IRS administrative criteria, has adopted its own view, consisting of most of the same criteria compacted into 7 or 8 points. See, e.g., Pusch v. Commissioner, 39 T.C.M. 838 (1980) or Chapman v. Commissioner 48 T.C. 358 (1967). In any event, not all of the 14 criteria must be met by every individual church, since only a substantial denomination will meet all of the criteria, and the IRS must allow for the existence of independent churches. Thus, there is substantial "wiggle room."
