A former U.S. president, a pope and a lawyer, having just died, found themselves at the Pearly Gates.
St. Peter soon arrived to greet them. After some initial pleasantries, he proceeded to escort them to their new accommodations.
After walking for a while, they came to a very small but tidy hut where St. Peter announced: "Mr. President, these are your quarters." After the president thanked him, they continued their stroll.
Eventually, they arrived at a slightly larger cottage, which St. Peter presented as the pope's new abode. The pope also thanked St. Peter, and he and the lawyer continued their trek.
After walking for quite a distance, they came upon a stupendous mansion built into a glorious hillside, surrounded by manicured gardens, a pool and spectacular views.
"And this is your new home," St. Peter told the lawyer.
The lawyer stood there flabbergasted. After a few moments of stunned silence, he managed to speak.
"This must be some sort of mistake," he said. "Having just seen the humble dwellings you provided for the president and the pope, I can't believe that this palace is for me."
"Listen," St. Peter said, "we get presidents and popes up here all the time, but you are our first lawyer."
