BREAKING NEWS: House Approves Planned Parenthood Defunding

Early this morning the House of Representatives approved $60 billion in cuts in federal spending, including blocking all federal Title X funding for Planned Parenthood. And that's causing a bit of an uproar. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said, “The time has come to respect the wishes of the majority of Americans who adamantly oppose using taxpayer dollars for abortions.” However, by law no Title X funds can be used for abortion. Instead, it would make things like free HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screening, family planning and prenatal care out of reach for many Americans.

Many politicians spoke out against the House Republican's "attack" on Planned Parenthood, including California Rep. Jackie Speier, who took to the House floor to speak about her own abortion. "I had a procedure at 17 weeks, pregnant with a child that had moved from the vagina into the cervix. And that procedure that you just talked about was a procedure that I endured. I lost a baby," she said. "But for you to stand on this floor and to suggest, as you have, that somehow this is a procedure that is either welcomed or done cavalierly or done without any thought is preposterous." Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler said the bill was illegal because it targets a specific group, and Manhattan BP also released a statement:

This afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to de-fund Planned Parenthood, effectively declaring a war on affordable healthcare services all over the country. The results of this vote signal the risk of a true public health crisis.
Organizations like Planned Parenthood provide yearly Pap exams, HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screenings, prenatal care and other essential medical services to the men and women who need it most. Planned Parenthood is often the only healthcare provider for underserved communities, those in high-risk situations and the uninsured and underinsured.
I stand with Planned Parenthood and related organizations in their fight to provide all people in this nation with safe, ethical, legal medical services. I urge the U.S. Senate to stop this destructive bill in its tracks before it is too late.

Planned Parenthood estimates they used $317 million in Title X funds for things like breast exams, cervical exams and infertility counseling last year, and has set up an open letter on their website to all Representatives who voted for the cuts. Even anti-abortion Democrat Stephen Lynch sees this as an unfair attack on public health. "This is about the ability of Planned Parenthood to conduct women's health care, to offer services that are deeply needed in many communities where no other source of health care is available…. I don't have many friends in the Planned Parenthood community. They don't support me. I am pro-life. But I respect the good work that they do."

The History of The Universal Life Church

There are many 100's, perhaps 1000's of Universal Life Churches throughout the world. The two largest being in Florida and in California. There is a renegade ULC located in Seattle, WA. referred to by many as "The Monastery" its real name is the Universal Life Church Monastery Storehouse, Inc., which started up in late 2006 after the leader thereof George Martin Freeman or Brother Martin as he calls himself was terminated by the real Universal Life Church Monastery, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona. This entity in Seattle is not a Church, but a storehouse of Ministry Supplies. It is not recognized as a Church by the ULC in Florida or in California. The ULC Monastery, Inc. does not validate ordinations from this Monastery based in Seattle, nor does the Court in Washington State. This can be verified by reading this article and through the Court Clerk of the Superior Court of Kings County, located in Seattle, WA. This Monastery Storehouse in Seattle fails to include their real name on ordination certificates, whereas County Clerks or Wedding Authorities could be easily led to believe they are from another ULC.

The word Universal with respect to Churches comes from the Greek Language, its origin can be traced to the second century and it was the name of the original Roman Church. The word universal itself from a Religious standpoint means catholic with a small c (catholic with a small c means Christian). The US Patent and Trademark Office and even many dictionaries, unofficially cite the Roman Catholic Church as the proprietary owner of the word Universal. Wherefore no Church will ever be able to copyright or trademark the Universal Life Church name. However it has always been considered to be that of Christian origin.

There is some confusion regarding the name stemming from the founding of "Life Church" in 1959 by Kirby Hensley. Hensley in 1962 incorporated in California and he added the name Universal to Life Church, because of a political party affiliation, Kirby had with his partner Gabriel Green and the Universal Party (flying saucer party). Hensley and Green were a bit unorthodox in their beliefs, Hensley even ran for President in 1964 and 1968, on a platform that included establishing ambassadorships for aliens from outer space. Hensley was a villified individual managing only 83 votes in two separate presidential elections. Hensley's claim to fame was not so much being the founder of "Life Church" as it was Hensley opted to ordain anyone and everyone as a minister. Through the years they've even ordained a dog or cat or two. Hensley was a twice defrocked Christian Minister from both the Southern Baptist and the Pentecostal Faith. As a result his "Life Church" was anything but a Christian Church. They even ordain followers of satan and atheists.

Of the many Universal Life Churches that do exist most are Christian or what is referred to as Faith Based, they adhere to the Christian Doctrine. Life Church or the ULC in Modesto is a non-faith based Church with no real doctrine to speak of. Many traditionalists do not even recognize them as a legitimate Church. Their ordinations nonetheless are legal and binding, providing their ministers the right to serve as wedding officiants.

The difference between faith based and non-faith based (interfaith) ordination is that faith based ministers are recognized as ministers within the doctrine of their Church, while non-faith based (interfaith) ministers are limited to serving primarily as wedding officiants. Ministers ordained within their faith are recognized throughout the world, while non-faith based (interfaith) ministers are primarily limited to their country of residence.

The Universal Life Church World Headquarters is a faith based organization located in Florida that adheres to the Christian Doctrine and who ordains men or women as non-denominational or as independent Catholic ministers.

Life Church founded by Kirby Hensley in 1959, who incorporated as Universal Life Church in 1962 and who refers to themselves as Universal Life Church International Headquarters is a non-faith based (interfaith) organization located in California, without a real Doctrine of Faith and who ordains men or women as non-faith based (interfaith) ministers.

Update: New Location Universal Life Church World HQ

As our Ministers know we have been looking to build a new Universal Life Church Conference/Retreat Center. To date we have received a $10 million dollar pledge, if we considered building on Centerville Lake (Location Above) in Cookeville, TN. However, we expect total cost to exceed $50 million. In addition we've also considered a parcel of land down the road from my home on Dr MLK Memorial Jr Drive (what was Lower Bridge) here in Crawfordville, FL.

However we've got a new entry and a promised $35 million pledge for locating it in Carrabelle, FL. I did drive down to Carrabelle this morning and I walked away impressed from our meeting. Carrabelle is located on the scenic Coastal Hwy Route 98 a long the beautiful Gulf Coast, nearby is the world famous St George Island Beach and Apalachicola, FL. If you love seafood, there's no better place to enjoy a bounty of some of the world's finest seafood. Here's a look at Carrabelle up close.

Animal Ministry - What is Animal Chaplaincy?

What is Animal Ministry?

Animal Ministry has been around since the very first time a human being felt connected to an animal. In each of the world's great faiths, there are important historical figures who were known for interpreting sacred scriptures to teach people to protect and honor animals. We are taught in every faith that we, as humans, are stewards of the wonders of Creation. It is a serious responsibility, and with it, can come great joy and self-discovery.

Being an Animal Chaplain is a specialized ministry that provides an array of services to the community. We provide pet loss grief support and perform memorial services, pray for animals who are sick or injured, as well as many other services. We can come to a clinic to comfort the bereaved, hold hands (and hearts) during surgery or euthanasia, or perform a memorial service at the client's home, track or barn, or in a park. Our philosophy is gentle and respectful. Most of us have had pets of our own, and have sincere compassion for the difficult times pet owners sometimes face.

In addition to grief and loss services, independent Animal Chaplains can deliver guest sermons on the bond between animals and humans, and offer spiritual education and guidance regarding our responsibilities as human beings toward the other creatures of the Earth. Some Animal Chaplains visit nursing homes and hospitals with therapeutic animal assistants, while others may lead religious services where well-behaved pets are welcome. Still others run animal shelters, animal rescue organizations, or other non-profit organizations which benefit the animal kingdom.

I'm so honest I've got leaders from other ULC's throwing darts at my picture on their wall. But getting ordained online and getting a certificate in the mail, this is not going to qualify you for a JOB in the ministry. I don't care which way you slice it, to gain employment you need experience and/or you need a degree. Even if you are going to start your own ministry, you need more than just an online ordination. You need to look professional and to be perfectly honest if you are looking to do anything but officiate weddings, point blank you need a faith-based ordination.

Some of these other online Churches or interfaith, generic ordination assembly lines all they are doing is they are looking to make a buck off you. An interfaith, generic non-faith ordination, where do you think that is really going to get you? Sure you can officiate weddings, but frankly some one can be a homeless wino today, get an interfaith ordination and serve as a wedding officiant tonight.

This is why we offer faith based ordination and we are the only Universal Life Church to offer such, why? Because I know with out a faith based ordination your chances of landing a job or starting a ministry is slim or non-existent. Benefactors, grant providers they won't give to you the time of day, unless you possess REAL ORDINATION = REAL MINISTER status and by R-E-A-L..........I mean FAITH-BASED PEOPLE.

You may not need a four year accredited college degree, or post grad seminary studies. But you need to be professional, you need to put together a resume.
